Imagine you are sitting in your living room, after a long day at work and all you want to do is relax, so you decide to take a deep breath but instead of giving you relaxation and comfort, it gives you sharp, catching pain on the side of the back of your rib cage and you have to stop, sometime mid-inhalation.
It feels like you have a pinched nerve or a bruised rib which is making full breaths uncomfortable. If you are a desk worker, it might be the case of the Sitting Flexion Trap, and not necessarily lung or heart related issues. This condition is significantly common among people who work desk jobs.
When you spend 8 to 10 hours slouched over a keyboard or a smartphone, your upper back stays in constant spine flexion. This position will make the front of your rib cage compressed and also cause overstretching in the intercostal muscles between your ribs.
In the long run, the joints where your ribs meet your spine (costovertebral joints) lose their ability to glide smoothly, which will cause localized inflammation and also muscle spasms whenever your lungs try to expand.
